Going back a bit - a world of possibility
Going back a bit
I typed this up before, but I thought of it today and it made me feel a little better.

Is it a curse or a blessing?

A man goes about his daily business.

This man has a horse.

One day the horse runs away.

The neighbors feel bad, but the man goes about his daily routine and does not mourn.

The neighbors ask why and the man replies with "Is it a blessing or a curse? There is no way to know".

The horse comes back with two cougars.

The neighbors rejoice. The man just goes about his life as normal. The neighbors ask why he does not rejoice. "Is it a blessing or a curse? There is no way to know".

One of the cougars hurts the mans son, breaks his leg. The neighbors feel pity. They ask why the man is not upset. He replies as usual.

Soon there is a war and man comes to town to recruit soldiers, every young and able man must go to war. All the neighbors sons are helthy and are whisked away while the man's son is in bed because his leg is broken.

Is it a blessing or a curse? There is no way to know"

I am going to NY tomorrow. I am going to go call the broker, start packing for this weekend (Maine) and continue packing for my move (yes I already started~every other time I've moved I finished on the day of the move. I am not doing that again)

I hope everyone is well.

ths story is a taoist cautionary tale. the taoists believe that there is no good or evil, there only is. some of the coolest stories come from their traditions. for an excellent introduction, you should obtain benjamin hoff's "The Tao of Pooh." it includes this story and many others.
